THE HMS MCU:

 

HMS has designed and implemented its own custom 24Ft Mobile Control Unit, or MCU for short.  The HMS MCU is designed and built to be 100% modular and completely customizable and scalable for applications from Live Event, On-Site Mobile Control Room/Video Village, Location/Studio Playback/Post Trailer for Broadcast Remotes, Film Sets and Stages, and much more.  

 

Unlike a traditional Broadcast Production Truck or OB Van, HMS utilizes Fiber, Ethernet, Wireless point to point send and receive, and many other transport solutions to custom tailor and outfit the MCU specifically to suit the needs of your project.  The engineering section houses 5 fully accessible 42RU racks.  These can be populated with whatever equipment is best suited for the task at hand.  The MCU’s design is completely open frame and modular to be easily tailored to any job, as well as easily modified and expanded even during a production.  The MCU utilizes state of the art transport interfaces to get all the signals that make up your show between control/village and set/stage over as few as 1 cable at distances up to 6.5 miles away.  The MCU is designed with versatility and scalability as its primary focus. 

 

COVID-19 REMOTE PRODUCER’S/EXECUTIVE VIDEO VILLAGE:

 

With all the developments surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the needs for expanding safety protocols and reducing on-set cast and crew sizes are coming to light.  What will be our “New Normal”? Exactly what those new protocols will be is ever evolving, but large on set video villages seem likely to be something that will be at least reduced, if not eliminated, at least in the early stages of returning to production.  As members of both Locals 479 and 695 with over 30 years video engineering experience, the team at HMS are eager to partner as and system designers and integrators with the talented Video Assist Operators and D.I.T.s on set.  Utilizing the existing MCU infrastructure and modular design for a dedicated on location and on lot DP trailer, or remote video village location seems a logical progression.  This will both aid in the reduction of individuals on the set, as well as providing a safe, clean, comfortable viewing location with live communication to and from set.  We look forward to helping to design and provide solutions to get our industry back up and running and doing it in as safe and responsible a manner as possible.

Allows for up to 16 Line Level signals to and from Set including dedicated push to talk mics from Village to Video Assist Operators/Stage or Set

  • Telecast Python 8 Channel 3G/HD-SDI/SD-SDI Transmit and Receive package for 8 discreet signals from set to the MCU

  • AJA Fido TX and RX pairs for additional expansion between Set/Stage and the MCU easily configurable as transmitter or receiver pairs to/from the MCU to/From Set.

  • Ethernet to Fiber conversion for long distance IP networking between Set/Stage and the MCU

  • Time code over analog video/audio over fiber from master clock in the MCU to Set/Stage
